You book the whole boat for the week, with up to 10 guests, a skipper and a hostess. You choose the pace, and we plan the route around the wind.

This page follows one example group so you can see what a week looks like, and what it costs.

What is included

  • The Lagoon 50 catamaran for seven nights, with a skipper (Daan, or a local skipper he knows well)
  • A hostess on board who prepares breakfast and lunch
  • Bed linen and towels
  • Fuel, harbour fees and the other running costs of the week, and use of the dinghy and snorkelling gear
  • A route planned with you before you arrive, and changed day by day to suit the weather

The example group and the boat

Our example group is four couples and two friends travelling alone. That is 10 guests, all adults.

The Lagoon 50 has six guest cabins: four double cabins, and two smaller cabins in the middle of the boat. That is the right layout for ten guests, with the four couples in the doubles and the two friends travelling alone in the middle cabins.

What to expect on board:

  • Four double cabins, one for each couple.
  • Two smaller middle cabins, best for one person each, or for two children.
  • Four bathrooms for ten guests, so some are shared.
  • A large cockpit for eating and talking, and a saloon for the evenings or a rough day.
  • Space on the foredeck and trampolines for sunbathing.

Sample week from Athens: the Saronic Gulf

The week starts in Athens, from the marina at Alimos. The transfer from Athens airport takes about 45 minutes and costs around 60 euro by taxi. The Saronic islands are close, so the sailing days are short and there is plenty of time to swim, eat lunch at anchor and walk around the harbours. A good first week for a group of friends.

More about the Saronic islands

This is an example. It is not a promise.

The wind. September is usually calmer than July and August. In the summer the strong northerly meltemi can blow for several days, and the route then changes to suit it. The skipper decides each morning, and the group has a say. One day in the week is kept flexible.

Example route: Athens (Alimos) – Aegina – Poros – Hydra – Spetses – Dokos or Hydra – Poros or Aegina – Athens

Day Plan
Saturday Board in Alimos in the afternoon. Meet the skipper and hostess, settle into the cabins, safety briefing. We leave the marina the same evening and anchor in a quiet bay nearby.(If the time allows)
Sunday Sail to Aegina. Swim stop on the way, lunch on board. Evening in the harbour town, which is known for its pistachios.
Monday Aegina to Poros. A short sail through the narrow channel at Poros. Dinner ashore.
Tuesday Poros to Hydra. Hydra has no cars, so the harbour is quiet and car-free. Time to walk and swim.
Wednesday Hydra to Spetses. An easy sail, with time for a swim on the way. Evening in the old harbour.
Thursday Flexible day. A quiet bay near Spetses or Dokos for swimming and a long lunch, or the shorter, more sheltered option if the wind is up.
Friday Back towards Poros or Aegina, depending on the wind. Last dinner ashore.
Saturday Return to Alimos in the morning. Disembark by 09:00.

Typical sailing days are around three hours, with time to swim and eat lunch at anchor. Breakfast and lunch are prepared on board by the hostess.

Dinner. Breakfast and lunch are on board, and each evening the group goes ashore to a taverna. If you would rather eat on board, you can upgrade from a hostess to a cook, who also prepares dinner.

Prefer the Cyclades? From Athens the same week can go to Kea, Kythnos and Serifos. The sailing days are longer and depend on the weather.

One total price

When you book with a skipper and a hostess, we quote one total price that includes everything. There is no separate list of extras to work out.

For our example group, ten guests on a Lagoon 50 for one week in September, the total is around 18,500 euro for the whole boat. That is about 1,850 euro per guest.

What the total price covers:

  • The Lagoon 50 for seven nights
  • The skipper and the hostess
  • Breakfast and lunch on board
  • Fuel, harbour fees and the other running costs of the week
  • Bed linen and towels

What it does not cover:

  • Dinners ashore at the tavernas. With a hostess, breakfast and lunch are on board and dinner is at a taverna, paid by each guest on the night. You can upgrade from a hostess to a cook, who also prepares dinner on board. The price for that is quoted on request.
  • Flights, travel insurance and tourist taxes
  • Anything personal, such as drinks beyond what is on board

July and August cost about 1,500 euro more for the whole boat, so around 20,000 euro, or 2,000 euro per guest.

Comparing prices: our total against a boat-only quote

When you compare quotes for a catamaran in Greece, check what each price covers. Many quotes for a skippered charter show only the boat. The skipper, the hostess, food, fuel, harbour fees, bed linen and cleaning are then extra, and they are often settled after you book, as an advance provisioning allowance that can add 20 to 30 percent.

A boat-only or skippered quote Our total price
The boat for the week Included Included
Skipper Often extra Included
Hostess, breakfast and lunch Extra, if offered Included
Fuel and harbour fees Extra Included
Bed linen, towels and cleaning Often extra Included
Dinners ashore Not included Not included, paid by you on the night

So a lower number on another quote does not always mean a lower cost. Ask what is in it, and we will do the same for ours.

The honest catch

  • The wind decides. In July and August the meltemi can change the plan, and some days are better spent in harbour.
  • Ten guests share four bathrooms, so some are shared.
  • Dinners ashore are paid by each guest, on top of the boat cost.
  • Not everything is possible every day. Some beaches and harbours are crowded in high season, and some are not reachable in strong wind.
  • A group of 10 is a full boat. It suits friends who are happy to share space.
